Rachel Anise Tells Us What's In Her Makeup Bag

Rachel Anise, otherwise known as the Beauty Professor, walks us through her tried and true products.

As a beauty writer and content creator, I am beyond grateful to be able to try so many new skincare and makeup launches so I can share them with my audience. Although the mile-long queue of products to test is ever-present (I only write about and recommend things I have personally experienced and love), after 10 years of doing Beauty Professor I also have a team of staples — from skincare and makeup to haircare and devices — that are tried and true perennial classics in my routine. I could speak volumes about each of these but will try to keep it to a single sentence each. Some of them include…

Skincare Must-Haves

Naturium Niacinamide Cleansing Gelee: A permanent staple in my shower, this cleanser removes dirt and makeup without stripping while leaving my skin bright, balanced and smooth.

Agent Nateur Holi Water: Rife with hyaluronic acid, this bouncy toner adds insane moisture and bounce to the skin and prepares it for all subsequent skincare steps.

Augustinus Bader The Rich Cream: At this point, I’ve lost track of how many bottles of this now cult-classic I’ve run through. The hydrating formula always takes the best care of my skin, offering anti-aging benefits and an unmistakable glow. I have most of my family members using AB now, too!

Serucell KFS Serum: This innovative formula helps to firm, tone, lift and even skin with consistent usage, reprogramming skin to behave in a more youthful manner over time.

Mila Moursi Dual Action Serum: I’ve used this potent anti-aging serum for years and appreciate its ability to refine and brighten while leaving skin firmer and more resilient with every application.

Colorescience Sunforgettable Total Protection Face Shield Flex SPF 50: I purchased this tinted sunscreen this year and it’s quickly become a summer nonnegotiable. The formula offers mineral SPF 50 protection and buildable, foundation-level coverage for even and luminous skin that lasts all day.

ZIIP: This microcurrent and nanocurrent device allows for endless customizable treatments that lift, tone, and contour the face while improving skin luminosity, clarity, and health with every session…truly the best of the best.

Creating the Perfect Base: Foundation, Concealer, & Powder Favorites

La Prairie Skin Caviar Concealer Foundation: I’ve used this iconic formula for years and it never disappoints; the coverage is utterly flawless and the performance is extremely consistent.

Clé de Peau Beauté The Concealer: The shade Buff is under my eyes regularly; I appreciate how the creamy and pigmented formula banishes under eye darkness on contact without creasing.

Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage Duo: For blemishes or spots in particular, there is nothing better; the slightly drier (in the best possible way) formula covers and adheres to imperfections, making them virtually invisible.

Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Glow Setting Powder: Whisper light and slightly radiant, this powder effectively sets makeup and is gorgeous for touch ups, imparting just the right amount of coverage without looking powdery.

Picks for the Perfect Sculpt & Glow: Blush, Bronzer, & Highlights

Surratt Artistique Cheek Brush: I have used this brush—made by makeup genius Troy Surratt—for bronzer and blush everyday for six years and it’s still in incredible shape. It buffs powder into oblivion and I never want to be without it.

BY TERRY Brightening CC Palette in Beach Bomb: Everything Terry makes is exquisite and this palette is no exception. Filled with four gossamer powders to bronze, blush, highlight and refine, it’s the easiest way to achieve a full face in mere seconds and the light reflecting pigments of the formula act like a veritable filter.

Hourglass Ambient Lighting Bronzer in Luminous Bronze Light: I recommend this bronzer multiple times a week; it’s silky and blendable, and contours and warms up the face like a dream.

Saint Cosmetics Radiant Finish Blush in Frose: This perfect light neutral pink blush adds a resplendent glow on the apples of one’s cheeks...I wear it multiple times a week.

Nude Envie Powder Blush in Enamour: A radiant mix of baby pink and gold for a tender flush, this blush is so fresh and pretty on all skin tones.

Tom Ford Sheer Highlighting Duo in Reflects Gilt: If I had to use only one highlighter for life (please don’t make that the case!), this is what I would choose; it delivers ethereal warm light to the face without looking at all shimmery.

All Eyes on You: Product Picks for Eyes that Pop

Victoria Beckham Beauty Satin Kajal Eyeliner in Ash: This amalgamation of black, brown and charcoal looks SO good on the lower waterline and does not budge.

LAWLESS The One & Done Volumizing Mascara: Two coats of this clean mascara and my lashes look like falsies; better yet, this mascara does not smudge or flake but still removes easily at the end of the day…I am a serious devotee to this formula.

Kosas Air Brow Tinted Clean Volumizing Eyebrow Gel in Dark Brown: Fortified with castor oil to assist in brow growth and strength, this brow gel leaves my brows feathery and full while holding them in place for hours.

What I’m Loving for Lips

Huda Beauty Lip Contour in Muted Pink: I wear this lip liner multiple times a week; it’s retractable, so no sharpener needed, and the cool rosy nude hue works well with every color in my collection.

Au Naturale Beauty Professor Su/stain Semi-Matte Lip Stain in LA: I am so proud of this peachy pink cream that I created with Au Naturale. Produced cleanly and sustainably, this hue evokes the warmth of an LA sunset and is flattering on all skin tones; it is full coverage while feeling remarkably lightweight and long-wearing while keeping lips moisturized and comfortable for hours.

Dior Addict Lacquer Stick in Rising Star: Often sold out, this rich and shiny nude has a tiny pink micro-shimmer that makes lips look plumped and sophisticated.

LAWLESS Lipstick in Platinum: This clean and creamy pale beige is the perfect shade to wear over dark lip liner or any time you need to lighten up a too-dark lipstick.

Sisley-Paris Phyto-Lip Twist in Sugar and Peach: Forever in my makeup bag, I’ve worn a mix of the hydrating and shiny Sugar and Peach hues for years on end and every time I do, someone asks what’s on my lips.

Saint Jane Luxury Lip Cream: These lush CBD-infused lipsticks have buttery and intense color payoff and come in a gorgeous range of neutral shades.

Haircare Holy Grails

Agent Nateur Holi Mane: Perhaps the most effective collagen powder I’ve tried to date, this ultra-high quality supplement, which is also fortified with Pearl Powder, masterfully strengthens hair, skin and nails. I mix a scoop into my coffee, tea or smoothie every single day.

Oribe Gold Lust Dry Shampoo: This formula adds shine, manageability and volume and smells like the most opulent vacation.

Hair Rituel by Sisley La Creme 230: I use a single pump of this to detangle my hair and add shine post-shower; it nourishes on contact while protecting hair against heat styling.

T3 Volumizing Hot Rollers: The only curlers I’ll probably ever use for the rest of my life, this set features two different sizes of velvet flocked rollers that don’t tangle in the hair and they impart lovely loose curls and plenty of volume on all hair types.

On the Go

Agent Nateur N.5 Deodorant: I’ve been using this natural deodorant for a solid year and it smells like a luxurious skin scent while really and truly keeping odor at bay without any of the harmful chemicals found in traditional deodorants.

BALA Bangles (1 lb): These are the chicest way to noticeably tone arms and legs…they are so comfortable that I often forget that I’m wearing them.

Fragrance Favorites

Maison Francis Kurkdjian Baccarat Rouge 540: I have worn this fragrance steadily since 2015 and will never get tired of it.

Parfums de Marly Delina: Rose and lychee harmonize with vanilla and musk for a complex juice that’s exceedingly pleasing to the nose.

Veronique Gabai Le Point G: A sensual take on rose and musk, this fragrance from an independent French perfumer needs to be on your radar.
