Pregnancy Picks with Esthetician Natalie Aguilar
Esthetician and dermatological nurse Natalie Aguilar walks us through her favorite products to nourish the skin during pregnancy.
Natalie Aguilar is a true "skin therapist" — her expertise as an esthetician and dermatological nurse has earned her the trust of top celebrities like Rita Ora, Chiara Ferragni, Eiza Gonzalez, Alfre Woodard, and Sofia Vergara. As of August 2020, the newest addition to Natalie's list of titles was "mom"! We were thrilled to have the chance to talk to her about the products she leaned on the most during her pregnancy to keep her skin healthy. Read on for more!
1. PCA Tinted SPF 45
Daily use of a broad-spectrum facial mineral SPF containing zinc oxide with or without titanium dioxide is the very best way to sidestep pregnancy-triggered melasma (aka the mask of pregnancy), which appears as dark to grey patches on our face. It contains no harmful chemicals and has a sheer universal tint that evens out skin tone with a makeup-free look.
2. Eminence Clear Skin Probiotic Mask
Many women experience acne during pregnancy due to the increase in hormones. While we can’t use retinoids, benzoyl peroxide, or even salicylic acid, we can use this “bad” bacteria fighting, anti-inflammatory and soothing mask to clear breakouts. Rich in probiotics, this mask uses lactic acid, yogurt, clay, and cooling cucumber to relieve skin irritation and redness. It can be used full face, as a spot treatment, or as a back mask.
3. Sarna Anti-itch Moisturizer
While our belly grows, so does the intense need to scratch! This pregnancy-safe moisturizer contains menthol and camphor to soothe and cool inflamed itchy skin — something most belly oils and balms can’t do. Apply this after a lukewarm bath to relive the belly itch.
4. Kiki Kreme Belly Butter
This handmade butter can be lathered on our growing belly and our newborn baby. Kiki Kreme promotes elasticity and prevents the appearance of stretch marks. It’s 100% natural, vegan, and organic and has a clean, delicious scent.
5. PCA C-Quench
I highly recommend incorporating this vitamin C serum for the hyperpigmentation, dark spots, and discoloration that come with pregnancy. Not to mention, Vitamin C is well-known for boosting collagen production, a bonus when we are limited to what anti-aging products we can use.
6. Athena Club Soft Face Wipes
It’s common to feel tired, or even exhausted (!!), during pregnancy. Sometimes the thought of cleansing your face seems like a tedious task. These wipes are literally so soft and infused with gentle ingredients like vitamins, oat extract, chamomile, aloe vera and more. They remove face and eye make up and are also amazing to pack in your hospital bag. Use them to freshen up and clean your face anytime.
7. Babor Hydra Plus Ampoule Serum Concentrate
With pregnancy comes moisture loss. These individual-dosed ampoules deliver hyaluronic acid, pre-biotics, probiotics, bio-glycerin and polymer moisturizer to hydrate and protect the skin’s microbiome. These ampoules also protect our skin from environmental factors that contribute to issues like dryness, sensitivity, and acne.
