Makeup Artist Jo Strettell Tells Us What's in Her Makeup Bag
Celebrity makeup artist Jo Strettell dishes on the must-have products she keeps in her bag.
Jo Strettell, a renowned celebrity and editorial makeup artist, has been working with A-list talent like Demi Moore, Uma Thurman, and Helen Mirren for years. Her work is uniquely her own, and has made her one of the most well-respected artists in the business. We sat down with Jo to get an inside look into what she keeps in her makeup bag to freshen up for Zoom calls in minutes. Here's what she had to say:
What's in Jo's makeup bag?
"I can’t walk around with a giant kit, so I keep a couple of things in my bag — just the essentials I need for a "no makeup" makeup look if I have to jump on Zoom or have a last minute meeting.
I usually start with the Tatcha Serum Stick. It’s a good way to moisten up the skin if you need it. Then I'll apply the Dr. Schrammek Blemish Balm as a foundation. This product is an absolute must for me. I have a little bit of rosacea, and this product really saves me. Sometimes that's all I'll use, and it's great because you can wear a mask over it and it doesn't move. It's a great product for that.
I also keep my blue drops on hand. You shouldn’t use them too much. If your eyes are red, you put a little drop in them and they’re crystal clear.
Another thing I do if my skin is too glowy, I'll use the Sisley Paris Blur Expert.
Then I like to do a little bit of a brow because mine are a bit faint. I do the Glossier Brow Flick to the paint the hairs in, and then I apply the Boy Brow to darken the brows.
I love the Jillian Dempsey Lid Tint. The shade Taupe is what I use for an everyday look, and Bronze is the shade I use when I’m looking for something more.
Then I’ll add the Jillian Dempsey Cheek Tint as well. Since I have dryer skin, a cream blush works on my face. I like a little bit of moisture. There are two shades I use — the Sunny for something subtle and the Petal for something a little bit more.
I also love the Jillian Dempsey Kohl Eye Pencil. It goes on well, and you can do a whole smokey eye with it. I use either the brown or the black shade depending on my mood.
For mascara, I use IT Cosemetics Tightline 3-in-1 Black Primer Mascara for a more natural look and their Superhero Mascara if I want a little more to be going on.
For lips, I like the IT Cosmetics Je Ne Sais Quoi Hydrating Lip Balm Treatment because it's hydrating and it has color. And their flush stain is great because it brings the pink out.
That’s what I keep in my bag — these are my everyday go-to’s for a quick look. Sometimes I don’t know when I’m jumping on a Zoom and you just want to have a few things on hand. I’m definitely a “no makeup” makeup person myself, but I do need help. We all do."
